After a few days of not eating the healthiest, my sister and I wanted something fresh and light for lunch. Earlier in the week we walked past Salud Super Food, a small restaurant on Olas Altas, and I pointed out that everyone raves about this place yet I have never been. We checked out the menu and decided this would be perfect for a healthy light lunch.
As you walk by, you can check out their menu.
The place is small with indoor and outdoor seating. It feels like a cafe of sorts and has many smoothies, vegetarian and meat options. The ingredients are high quality and sourced from local purveyors which I didn’t know until I was checking out their website. How very cool and no wonder this small venue is such a success!
Inside Salud you order at the counter. There is seating inside or out.
Both Holly and I decided on the veggie burgers with a side salad. Holly also had a green tea drink but I opted for some aqua mineral. We almost bought a cookie too but decided against it. Next time we said.
A delicious veggie burger and simple side salad. Salud has a farm to table approach, finding ingredients from local purveyors.
The burgers were delicious as was the salad. The food was really tasty, definitely a hit with us. The prices were reasonable too I found. We sat on the outdoor patio and was able to people watch which was nice.

Unfortunately Salud was closed Easter Sunday, our last day in Puerto Vallarta so we weren’t able to have another meal there. But I don’t think Salud is going anywhere soon so I will be going back next visit!
Staying healthy is a main priority of ours no matter where we are and it’s important to fit some sort of physical activity into our day whether its going for a long walk, swimming or a workout at the gym. Being in Puerto Vallarta, I tend to over indulge in food and alcohol so working out becomes a necessity. Fortunately, our condo complex has a small but adequate gym with a treadmill, stationary bike, a weight machine and dumbbells up to 30 pounds. However, this trip our complex is upgrading our complex gym and its pretty much out of commission. This led us to search out the other gyms in our area with the top gym (we think anyway) called The Fit Club http://www.en.thefitclub.mx/.
Found in Emilano Zapata just before the river, The Fit Club is easy walking distance from our place and best of all…air conditioned! The gym has everything such as personal trainers, a juice bar, weight machines, free weights, cardio machines galore, good music to motivate, a fitness studio for classes like yoga and Zumba, lockers, showers and a steam room.
Prices vary but you can buy a single or a multiple pass or, if you are staying longer, week and monthly memberships. Of course the longer pass or membership you purchase, the less expensive it becomes per day. To cut down on our costs, we would bring our own towel, water bottle and small backpack that we carried around with us machine to machine.
So do yourself a favour and stay active, eat well and drink lots of water. You’ll feel better overall and in return, have a better vacation in Puerto Vallarta!
