Lunch at El Barracuda on Los Muertos Beach

Last November when I came down with my family, I had Superior Tours Vallarta pick us up at the airport. As we were driving to my condo, the driver pointed out a restaurant and beach club we should try called El Barracuda. I google searched it, found the website and knew I had to try it. The place looked totally up my alley…hip, cool, beach front and with a surfer feel.

Victor and I made our way down the malecon, leisurely checking out stores while taking in the sun. I said, why don’t we walk down to El Barracuda for lunch and a cerveza, it will be a nice walk. Victor agreed and that was the plan for the day.

We made our way to the end of the malecon and continued on for probably 4 or 5 more blocks. Never being down this far, we stopped in numerous shops along the way, all much less expensive than the main tourist drag. It was a great little shopping area with little taco places scattered here and there.

El Barracuda is on a back street that runs parallel with the beach. It almost feels as if you are in Sayulita or Bucerias with its small village and quiet street location. The vibe is cool and laid back, the crowd is all ages, and the food is mexicana. You can either sit in the restaurant or El Solar which is the bar. We decided to have lunch in the restaurant and go over to the bar afterwards.

I spotted a full grilled fish on the menu and had to have it. It’s been something I have wanted to try for a long time, a full grilled fish! The waiter took us to the kitchen to look at the fish, which was a red snapper, and tell us how they cook it. Perfect, we shared it along with some complimentary taco chips and salsa.

After we were done, we walked next door to El Solar where they have all day 2×1 drinks. The sun was bright, the skies were clear and the moods were easy going. It was a perfect afternoon. One of these days we will be back in the evening when the dj is spinning, that would be a blast and I’m quite sure the crowd would be a lot of fun.
