As we walked from our condo down to the beach, we could see the new pier looming in the distance. With tall posts for the sails and a much bigger platform than the old pier, it is quite a formidable structure. It is predicted the pier will be completed by the middle of December, just in time for high season and the multitude of tourists who arrive in Puerto Vallarta for the Christmas season.
There were many groups of men working on this pier as well as trucks and other larger machinery along the street leading up to this massive structure. The area was a hive of activity. At first I wasn’t sure what I would think, if I liked it or preferred the old pier instead. But the closer we were, the more I could appreciate the beauty and ingenuity of this new and impressive piece of work.
Although I will, and all already do, miss the humble old pier where the local fishermen cast their lines into the sea or couples romantically sat gazing out to sea, the new pier is promising to be a major tourist attraction and a Los Muertos Beach landmark for years to come.
